The Chedr App (also referred to as Chedr or The Share Company, LLC) is an easy and fun way to share pictures. You can post pictures to “Nearby” to share pictures with people around you, and you can explore pictures that are being shared near you, and save any picture that you like to your device. You can also create public and private (password protected) events so that pictures can be shared amongst those that have access to those events.

When using these services, and any others we create, you’ll inevitably share some information with us. So we want to be upfront about the information we collect, how we use it, whom we share it with, and the choices we give you to control, access, and update your information.

Information We Collect

There are three ways that we collect information from you, Information you choose to give us, Information we get when you use our services, and Information we get from third parties.

Information You Choose to Give Us

When you interact with our services, we collect the information that you choose to share with us. For example, most of our services require you to set up a basic Chedr account, so we need to collect a few important details about you, such as: a unique username you’d like to go by, a password, and an email address. In the future we may also ask you to provide us with some additional information that could be publicly visible on our app, such as profile pictures, your name, or other useful identifying information.

You’ll also provide us whatever information you send through the services, such as Pictures you share and any metadata associated with the picture, like a caption and location. Keep in mind that other users will be able to download and save any picture that you share. So, use common sense and don’t share content that you wouldn’t want someone else to save or share.

In addition, when you contact Chedr Customer Support or communicate with us in any other way, we’ll collect whatever information you volunteer.

Information We Get When You Use Our Services

When you use our services, we collect information about how you use our product. For instance we might know where you posted a picture, which pictures you viewed or downloaded, which events you searched for or viewed, events you created and managed, and pictures that you liked and/or reported.

We may collect device information such as the hardware model, operating system version, advertising identifier, unique application identifiers, unique device identifiers, browser type, language, wireless network, and mobile network information (including the mobile phone number).

Our app requires us to collect images and other information from your device’s camera and photos. We’ll access your camera and photos only after you give us your consent.

In order to share and view pictures to nearby, we will need to collect information about your location. With your consent, we will collect information about your precise location using methods that include GPS, wireless networks, cell towers, Wi-Fi access points, and other sensors, such as gyroscopes, accelerometers, and compasses.

We may also obtain information from other companies that are owned or operated by us, or any other third-party sources, and combine that with the information we collect through our services, like Facebook when you use them to log in.

We may use cookies and other technologies, such as web beacons, web storage, and unique advertising identifiers, to collect information about your activity, browser, and device. We may also use these technologies to collect information when you interact with services we offer through one of our partners, such as commerce features. Your mobile operating system may let you opt-out from having your information collected or used for interest-based advertising on mobile devices. You should refer to the instructions provided by your mobile device’s manufacturer; this information is typically available under the “settings” function of your mobile device.

And of course, if your mobile device offers an uninstall process, you can always stop us from collecting information through the app by uninstalling the Chedr app.

How We Use Information

The information we collect helps us provide you with an amazing app experience that we are constantly improving. It also helps us operate our app, communicate with you, analyze trends, personalize the app for you as much as possible and enhance the safety and security of the app to prevent fraud or illegal activity. We may also store some information locally on your device. For example, we may store information as local cache so that you can open the app and view content faster.

How You/We Share Information

Of course, since this is the Chedr app, you will be doing a lot of sharing. Everytime you share a picture you give up all rights over that picture, as people can download that picture and do what they wish with it. You are also sharing certain pieces of metadata that are part of your picture, like the caption, your username, and the location of the picture when shared nearby. We may also share this information with affiliates or third parties (service providers, sellers, and partners).

We’re not so happy about this one, but we may share information about you if we reasonably believe that disclosing the information is needed to comply with any valid legal process, government request, or applicable law, rule, or regulation; investigate, remedy, or enforce potential Terms of Service violations; protect the rights, property, and safety of us, our users, or others; or detect and resolve any fraud or security concerns.

If Chedr gets involved in a merger, asset sale, financing, liquidation or bankruptcy, or acquisition of all or some portion of our business to another company, we may share your information with that company before and after the transaction closes.

If we were to share any information with advertisers, it would be aggregate information, meaning it would be de-identified information which could not be reasonably used to identify you.

We will NOT share your contact info with any advertiser or third party for the purposes of them spamming you or sending you unsolicited requests.

How Long We Keep Your Content

Chedr allows you to share things in the moment, but by design, your pictures are not meant to be maintained for ever. When you share a picture to nearby, it will be live for a pre-configured length of time, after that time expires, the photo will be deleted from our servers and will no longer exist. Remember however that other Chedr users may have downloaded your picture and may potentially re-upload it as theirs. In the future we may add logic by which your nearby photos’ expiration date may get extended the more likes and downloads it gets. This will ensure that popular photos are around longer.

When you post a picture to an Event, the picture will only last as long as the event. Events also have an expiration date, which may be allowed to be extended. Once the event expires, all pictures in the event will be deleted as well.

Outside of shared pictures, the rest of our services may use content for longer periods of time, which means those services may follow different deletion protocols. This could apply for example to aggregate data about how many pictures you posted, from what locations, etc.

Once again, you should understand that users who see the content you provide can always save it using any number of techniques: screenshots, in-app download, or any other image-capture technology. It’s also possible, as with any digital information, that someone might be able to access messages forensically or find them in a device’s temporary storage. Keep in mind that, while our systems are designed to carry out our deletion practices automatically, we cannot promise that deletion will occur within a specific timeframe. And we may also retain certain information in backup for a limited period of time or as required by law.

Sensitive Information

We want you to feel safe using the Chedr app. We have built in some functions to help with that. If you create an Event, we allow you to delete pictures that you feel are not appropriate for others to see. We also help you password-protect your event to add an extra layer of security for your private events; however it is up to you to protect that password, if others somehow get ahold of your password, they will be able to access your private event. Additionally if you see a picture, in an Event or Nearby, that you feel is inappropriate, we allow you to Report the picture. After a certain number of people have reported it, the picture will automatically disappear from the Chedr app. Additionally, Chedr administrators may browse through pictures to catch and remove inappropriate photos, or reinstate photos that were reported that are considered to be fine.

Chedr administrators have the right to suspend a Chedr user’s account at any time and for any reason. We will most likely do this if we see a user that is posting inappropriate pictures or doing something that is considered harassment or that can make people uncomfortable. Chedr reserves the right to make that discretion.

Also note that when you post a picture to Nearby, we allow users to see an approximate location of where the picture was posted.  Although we do not show a pin that specifies your exact location on a map, some people may be able to approximate your location, so if you’re worried about people being able to have a general idea of where you are located when posting a picture, we recommend that you refrain from posting to Nearby and instead post to an event.

Analytics and Advertising Services Provided by Others

We may let other companies use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies on the services. These companies may collect information about how you use the services and other websites and online services over time and across different services. This information may be used to, among other things, analyze and track data, determine the popularity of certain content, and better understand your online activity.

We use third-party analytics tools to help us measure traffic and usage trends for the Service. These tools collect information sent by your device or our Service, including the web pages you visit, add-ons, and other information that assists us in improving the Service. We collect and use this analytics information with analytics information from other Users so that it cannot reasonably be used to identify any particular individual User.

Additionally, some companies may use the information they collect on our services to deliver targeted advertisements on behalf of us or other companies, including on third-party websites and apps. Chedr does not currently respond to do-not-track signals that may be sent from your device. If we do so in the future, we will provide information about that practice in an updated version of this privacy policy.

Users Outside the United States

Although we welcome Chedr users from all over the world, keep in mind that no matter where you live or where you happen to use our services, we operate our services from the United States. This means that we may collect your personal information from, transfer it to, and store and process it in the United States and other countries whose local data-protection and privacy laws may offer fewer protections than those in your country of residence or from any country where you use or access the services.

Revisions to the Privacy Policy

We may change this privacy policy from time to time. But when we do, we’ll let you know one way or another. Sometimes, we’ll let you know by revising the date at the top of the privacy policy that’s available on our website. Other times, we may provide you with additional notice (such as adding a statement to our websites’ homepages or providing you with an in-app notification).
